Diane Von Furstenberg sends wavy blow drys down the runway

Wavy hair has to be one of the top hairstyles of the moment and nearly always makes an appearance on the red carpet and fashion runways. The Diane Von Furstenberg A/W 2013-2014 catwalk featured soft, bouncy curls that added body and volume to the models’ hair. The pros give us their verdict on this feminine style.

On the runway, the aim was to create beautiful hair that wouldn’t steal the limelight from the fashion itself. ‘This style is quite easy to re-create at home. Rather than creating a show-stopping hairstyle, the look was more subtle and airy. The hairstyles actually matched the catwalk outfits perfectly; elegant feminine and modern.’

The technique used to create the look on the Diane Von Furstenburg runway is slightly different to the one you would normally use to create this look at home. ‘Spray dry hair all over with hairspray, then take a large barrelled curling iron to tong sections of the hair. You should be aiming to create loose curls that don’t spring too tightly. Create a parting that sits in line with the top point of your eyebrow. Not many curly hairstyles manage to pull off the ‘au natural’ look successfully like the Diane Von Furstenburg look. Once you have lightly curled your hair, comb through with a brush to loosen the curls further.’

At home, you may want to vary this technique according to the products that you have and prefer to use. ‘Start creating this look by using a hairdryer and round barrel brush. Your hair should be straight and smooth from the roots to the mid-lengths, and wavy from the mid-lengths to the ends. To create this effect, wrap sections of hair around your barrel brush and heat with the hairdryer whilst rotating your brush. Add a touch of glamour by curling the front strand of hair near your face. Spray evenly with hairspray to make your style stay put throughout the day.

Our tip: Long wavy blow drys work particularly well on long, layered hair. Head to your salon to ask for some tips and advice on how to update your look.
