Choosing the right hair salon

Admit it, you’re not prepared to trust just anyone with your hair. Getting your hair cut or coloured is a very important task. You need to be able to trust your hairdresser and be certain that he or she understands exactly what you’re after. Here’s some advice on how to make sure you find the right salon.

The first quality to look for in your hairdresser is obviously his or her professional expertise. A hairdresser who cuts your hair shorter than you want or bodges up your colour is obviously not the best hairdresser! “You are very unlikely to find yourself in this situation today, but it can still happen. So, to avoid any mishaps, choose salons you are familiar with, salons with a number of franchises. In salons like these you are sure to end up with a competent stylist as they all follow strict rules.”

The other essential quality to look for in your hairdresser is their ability to listen. “He or she needs to be comfortable dealing with clients, be attentive and listen to what they want in order to better anticipate and satisfy their needs.” There needs to be a sense of trust and understanding so that you can come out of the salon with a hairstyle that looks and feels fabulous. You’ll never know if the cut itself is perfect, but as long as you can style it easily and people think you look great, that’s all that matters!

Another important factor is hygiene. This should be systematic. It goes without saying that the salon should be clean and well looked-after. “At Jean Louis David we even use disposable laundry. As fabrics can be washed regularly, it is rare for hairdressing gowns to be used just once. In Jean Louis David salons, however, 70% of our gowns and towels are now disposable – another bonus that our clients are grateful for.”

Finally, the hair wash stage is also a decisive moment in determining the quality of your hairdresser. Before he or she starts washing your hair, your hairdresser should ask you what type of products and treatments you usually use on your hair. This will help them decide what to use. “An important part of the hair wash stage is the scalp massage. This is a relaxing experience for you, and it also helps to improve your hair’s general condition.”

Our tip: Have a clear idea of what you want but are unsure of how to explain it to your hairdresser? Choose hair salons that work with images, such as Jean Louis David. Your ideas are put across using pictures, which makes things clearer for you and your hairdresser. No more misunderstandings!
