The Christmas holidays are now in sight! You’ll have time to rest, spoil your friends and family with presents…and of course have some precious you-time to pamper yourself. This year, you’ve decided to go for a retro look and re-create all of your favourite  classic hairstyles this Christmas. So what are the key retro trends for the festive period?
 
Retro Hollywood curls. This style was the height of glamour and femininity in the 50s thanks to its soft, sleek cascading curls. Made famous by Marilyn Monroe, this hairstyle is easy to create and you’ll have a style worthy of a Hollywood A-lister. To create this blow-dry look, you’re going to need a large round barrel brush and hair that is almost dry. Once you’ve blow-dried each section with the brush, backcomb the hair around your face to create luscious volume. Finish off the look with lashings of hairspray.
 
Wavy side-hair. Easy to create, this hairstyle combines sophistication and glamour, making it the perfect style for christmas! Draw the hair into a side parting after washing your hair. Next, you need to curl the hair from the root down to your mid-lengths, leaving the ends of your hair natural. To do this, take a curling iron and some heat-protection spray. Once you’ve created the curls, bring all of your hair round to the shoulder your parting is on, finish with a layer of hairspray and voila!
 
The exaggerated chignon. Those of you who love dancing to classic 60s hits are going to love re-creating the look of your favourite throwback stars! This voluminous chignon instantly opens up the face. Scrunch a golf ball sized amount of mousse into damp hair to give your hair body. Dry your hair with your head upside down, then backcomb the hair section by section for a va-va-voom look. Use a comb to achieve this effect and use hairspray on each section of backcombed hair to give your style staying-power. Gather up the hair, and create your chignon at the base of the neck. Pin up any flyaways with a few bobby pins.
