Claire, 29: “Retro hairstyles for an oh-so-sophisticated look”

Your look? I mix vintage and modern pieces. But I don’t buy my clothes in second hand clothing stores. I don’t particularly like the idea of other people having worn the clothes before me… Luckily for me, it’s almost as if the brands know what I want and each season their racks are full of retro clothing. The 20s, 50s and 70s are still a source of inspiration for loads of designers!

Your hairstyle? I’ve always been fascinated by my grandmother’s hairstyles. She would never leave the house without doing her hair first. Today, all we tend to do is give it a quick brush, pull it into a ponytail and off we go! Whereas before, no one would ever dream of going out without taking the time to style their hair. I admire this dedication, the fact that they took the time every day to beautify their hair. So I’m taking their cue! I spend about half an hour on my own hair every day, looking after it and styling it.

Your look today? I like the idea of retro curls, but I don’t want them to stand out too much. Otherwise I’ll end up looking like someone who’s just walked out of the 20s! So I use wide-barrelled curling tongs to create two or three big curls. Once they’re in place, I mist them with hairspray to protect them from humidity and make sure that they’ll hold all day long.
