The experts' verdict on short side hair spotted on the Francesco Scognamiglio runway

Side hair is becoming the ‘it’ hairstyle of the season. Commonly worn on the red carpet and at swanky evening dos, this hairstyle is a real favourite with women all around the world. The look, which essentially involves bringing all of the hair around to one side of the face, combines femininity and simplicity. But, can this look be achieved with shorter hair, and how? The pros reveal their verdict on side hair for short hair, as seen on the Francesco Scognamiglio runway.

This style incorporates side hair with a structured bob. ‘The cut itself isn’t A-line and the length should not go beyond the shoulders. This is the perfect haircut to create the style seen on the catwalk. Any longer and the style will be difficult to create’.

In terms of colour, a coolish brown tone is ideal. ‘Glossy brown hair, with cool tones is perfect for this style. The ends of the hair are lighter than the roots. Ask for a Sunlight treatment at the Jean Louis David salons to create this effect. This cool shade of brown, without any streaks or highlights, is sublime worn with side hair’.

The side hair look seen on the Francesco Scognamiglio is fairly simple to re-create at home. ‘Create a low-lying parting so that you can sweep your hair around your shoulder after curling your hair into beautiful wavy lengths. Use a curling iron with a large barrel and point the end of the iron downwards. Hold the iron with one hand and with the other, wrap your hair around the barrel. Give your waves a relaxed feel by using a product that will enhance waves. When you’ve finished curling the hair, bring all of the hair around to the opposite side to your parting, securing with a styling gel or hairspray. The style should look similar to a half-mohawk. To finish apply a serum to make hair shine’.

Our tip: You can create side hair on all different hair lengths. If your hair is naturally straight, tong  thin sections of hair to make sure your curls don’t drop out quickly.
