Hairstyle

The neo-grunge half ponytail

If there were two trends you would never use in the same sentence, this has to be it! Neo-grunge and the half ponytail are rarely combined into one style. Yet, the Vionnet runway show has proved us all wrong thanks to the stunning hairstyles that were sent down the catwalk.

Runway-ready hair. You’re well past the days of wearing a half ponytail to school or college! For 2014, the half-ponytail is getting a rebellious overhaul, far from its preened counterpart. From dreadlocks to unkempt lengths and a messy parting, nothing could be more different from the ‘sensible’ version of the half-ponytail. However, the result remains contemporary and modern.

Who can wear the look? If you’re looking for a true hair transformation, you’ve come to the right place. Tired of wearing your hair super-sleek and straight every day? Say hello to the neo-grunge trend. Whether you opt for dreadlocks, backcombing or simply a bed-head chic vibe, it’s important that the lengths of your hair look messy and wild.

How to create the style. You should aim to create this style around two days after washing your hair, as it will hold your style better and fit in well with your messy new look. The simplest way to do this is to backcomb your hair. Start by backcombing the lengths to create rebellious volume and body. Once you’ve finished backcombing, make your half-ponytail. Keeping your parting central and tying back the sections which fall forward into your ponytail will help open up your face. Secure your ponytail with a hair tie and spray evenly with hairspray to keep in place as long as possible.
