Straight hair without using straighteners

Straighteners haven’t always been so widespread. We’ve only been using them for about 10 years. Before, people had to resort to other techniques. Here’s a look at some ways of achieving perfectly straight hair without using straighteners.

Before straighteners, women who wanted straight hair used their hair dryer. “By blow-drying your hair you can achieve an effect much like you do with straighteners. Both use the same principle: heat and a styling tool. The plates on straighteners make the process easier as they provide a lot more heat, but you can achieve the same result using a brush and a hair dryer. What’s more, blow-drying is better for your hair as the hair dryer is not in direct contact with the heated area. Only downside? Blow-drying takes longer.”

The traditional blow-dry isn’t the only way to get perfectly straight hair without using straighteners. “A less well-known approach involves twisting the hair using a flat brush. Dry your hair section by section for the best result. You can also use chunky rollers. These work especially well on curly hair. Using rollers that are chunkier than the curls produces a straightening effect. You’ll obviously need to heat up the rollers to get the perfect result.”

Our tip: make sure you protect your hair from the heat before blow-drying your hair or using rollers. The heat can leave your hair fragile, so it is vital you take protective measures. Straightening heat-protector sprays are just the product for the job.
