Your parting is where your hair naturally separates. Without one your hair would either be all forward or all backwards! Your parting is a separation which allows you to direct your hair in the direction you want. Centre parting, side parting, diagonal parting…. Which one will you go for?
 
The parting, instructions for use! Your parting allows you to direct your haircut, your hairstyle. But it’s best not to try and work against your natural parting. Each hair has its own behaviour, its own way of moving, so trying to create a parting that doesn’t match your natural parting isn’t always a great idea, because your hair will always naturally revert back.
 
Partings to try. You should choose your parting to match your hair and your haircut. You need to consider the way your hair grows and falls naturally. Your parting determines which section of your hair has the most volume. If you create a fairly high side parting, this will result in a fairly asymmetric effect. If you’re after a subtle parting, create it on an angle. Rounded (and side) partings are a great way of adding volume to the top of a style and emphasising effects, especially colour. Very low side partings allow you to play around with your lengths. You can even make them look like a side fringe! A straight parting with slick hair will give you a strict, serious look.
 
Creating the parting. To get the perfect parting, create it in one go. Comb your hair backwards then place your comb at growth level before pulling with the biggest tooth on the comb and separating the two sides. Hair must be straightened or well-combed for a perfect parting. For best results create the parting on wet hair, but it will also work on dry hair! If you have curly hair, use a tail comb to create your parting using the tail.
