Face-slimming hairstyles
Clothes aren’t the only way to cover up a few excess pounds. Your hairstyle can work in your favour too. You just need to know a few of the pro’s handy tips.
Rest assured there aren’t any particular hairstyles you have to completely avoid. However, some cuts or styles can accentuate your facial features more than others. “The more ‘vertical’ your hair is, the more it will have a slimming effect. So stick to long, straight styles. Subtle layers or styles that frame the face are also an option.” In terms of colour, darker shades will make your face look visibly slimmer. But your choices are not limited to long styles!
Fringes and layered styles that frame the face nicely are also great for round faces. “Go for wispy, rounded or side fringes rather a short fringe, or a really full or blunt one”. Though you might not think it, short haircuts, such as bowl cuts, also work well as long as they’re not too round.
Another way to make your face look slimmer is to add a little height to your hair! Try high chignons, such as the bun chignon, high ponytails (but not too slick) or French twists. “Backcomb your hair for added volume at the roots and to bring out your face.”
Finally, forget waves or chunky curls. “Waves accentuate your hair’s volume and therefore can draw more attention to the areas of your face that you’d rather go unnoticed…” If you do want to go for waves, keep them subtle.
Our top tip: The colour you go for is another important factor. Darker colours are the most effective in making your face look slimmer. But that’s not your only option. Highlights are also a good solution. They add light and structure to your cut to bring out your best features.
