What effects do texturising products provide?

Texturising products are a god-send for day-to-day styling. They are used to modify your hair’s texture for added body. Here’s a look at some of the effects you can create using texturising products.

Texturising products modify the nature of your hair. “These kinds of products can be used to leave hair looking more matte, wetter, or more roughed up, depending on the effect you’re after. It changes your hair’s natural texture. Gels are nothing like texturising products, these simply hold your hair and have no effect on your hair itself. Generally, pastes are the products you want for added body.”

Texturising products should not be applied across your whole hair. “A texturising product should be applied across the mid-lengths and ends as you style your hair. Use it to create volume or a change in texture. Avoid applying to the roots to avoid the greasy effect.”

Unlike gel or hairspray, texturising products will not keep your hair in place all day. “The purpose of texturising products is different from fixing products. They provide structure for your hairstyles, not hold. Texturising products can, however, be used to set your hairstyles. Apply sparingly to avoid the ‘stiff’ effect.”

Our tip: Particularly useful on fine hair, a texturising powder leaves hair feeling thicker and changes its texture. Before applying, hair is too glossy and difficult to manage. Afterwards, it is a lot easier to style and keep in place.
