Hair how-to: super-straight 60s locks
One of autumn-winter 2014-2015’s top trends, super-straight locks, is causing quite the stir in the fashion world. Straight hair, however, doesn’t mean limp-looking locks. Want to create more volume? Take a look at some of the hairstyles worn during the 60s to learn how to get voluminous locks that defy gravity!
The trend. It’s hard to escape the influence of the 60s these days, as this retro trend has been around for over 50 years. For 2014, 60s style is back on top form, especially when it comes to make-up looks. Heavy eyeliner, thick fringes, voluminous roots…all of these key 60s trends are here to stay.
Who can wear super-straight locks? Anybody who loves recreating bold, statement trends. Although 60s trends may seem fairly straightforward to recreate, this isn’t always the case! You’ll need to perfect your backcombing skills and learn how to draw smoothly with eyeliner, not to mention learning how to recreate France Gall’s iconic fringe! This trend is best suited to women who like to spend time getting ready each morning, not those who like to get out of bed and head straight out of the door!
Get the 60s-inspired runway look. Don’t worry about having the ‘right’ haircut or style, as the 60s trend is transferrable to any hair type and length. The most important thing to remember is that hair should be tangle-free in order to make styling more manageable. Today, we’re getting our inspiration from the Versace runway show, where models wore their hair in long, straight lengths with volume at the roots and crown area. Start by creating a side parting. Next, apply a heat-protective spray all over and distribute evenly to protect hair from high temperatures. After straightening from root to tip, backcomb your roots at the crown. This will add a contrast in height between your lengths and roots. Finally, brush over the top of your backcombed section lightly to conceal your handiwork and add hairspray all over for a long-lasting hold.
