70s-inspired waves spotted on the runway

You probably know just as well as us that the fashion world is constantly reinventing itself, and recycling past trends. We bet you laugh at the clothes and trends your parents used to wear, but you might want to hold your tongue, as you may well be wearing something similar pretty soon! Hair on the Anna Sui runway was styled with headbands and into retro curls. Prepare yourselves for the modern-day 70s hairstyle trend.

During the 70s, fashion became almost unisex, which is why women wanted to add a feminine touch to their look through their hairstyles. Voluminous backcombed hair, curly perms and hippy-inspired headbands were right on-trend. Even if girly, flirty clothes weren’t fashionable, that didn’t mean women were about to echo this in their hair and make-up. 40 years ago, women’s hair was generally worn very long, but the 70s waves can still work with shorter hairstyles today. The most important part of this look is the curl itself.

70s curls look beautiful on both long and short hair and the technique for creating these curls applies to both hair lengths. Once the hair has been thoroughly washed, create a centre parting and dry your hair upside down to create as much body and volume as possible. When your hair is fully dry, there are a few different ways to create the curls seen on the Anna Sui runway. Try using a curling iron on small sections of hair so that the curl will last longer and have a perfect wave shape. Don’t curl your roots however. Leave around 3cm of the root area uncurled to create the look.
