Who can dye their hair black?
Every winter, people tend to turn towards darker hair, especially black. But does this colour suit everyone? Your hairdresser is here to give you all the advice you need. Here are some criteria to think about before dying your hair black.
Black doesn’t require any more upkeep than other colours. “It all depends on the base colour. Black can result in quite a contrast, so people with light hair will have to get their roots done more often than those with darker hair. If you have a blond base colour, expect to have to have your colour done very regularly. Choose a black that suits your base colour and your hair type.”
Black hair can look great with highlights, but not just any colour. “Black is a very intense colour, so only certain shades will work with it. The only colours that will really be noticeable are blue, purple or red tones. Gold tones, for example, do not work with black hair.”
Black can look good with a number of haircuts, but works best with a select few. “Black works really well to enhance graphic cuts. A bob, a very blunt cut or even a bowl cut are perfect. Black also works with long, layered hair.”
Our tip: blonds can switch to black, as long as they are careful. “There are a number of stages to go through to obtain a deep black. Never attempt this colour at home, head to the salon so that your hairdresser can give you a tailor-made colour.”
