Tie up your hair with a ribbon
This season’s catwalk shows are proving to be a great source of inspiration, especially when we spot an easy-to-create hairstyle. Roksanda Ilincic sent ponytails with statement ribbons down the catwalk, which has made us want to give this look a go ourselves! The pros reveal all.
This style is very laid back and simple to create. ‘The essential part to this hairstyle is finding a rigid ribbon for maximum effect. Velvety and silky textured ribbons are too soft, whereas the ribbons on the Roksanda Ilincic catwalk stood tall and rigid. So make sure you use a ribbon with a mouldable shape.’
Once you have the correct ribbon, you need to prepare your hair before styling. ‘The texture of your look is very important. Although you want your hair to appear soft and smooth, you don’t want your hair to be overly straightened. To do this, apply a styling product such as a mousse, which will help give your hair texture and relax it. Use a flat brush to avoid creating too much volume.’
One you have prepared your hair, move onto creating the all important ribbon bow. ‘Gather you hair up into a high ponytail and tie with a clear elastic. Next, take your ribbon and tie it in the centre of your ponytail, making sure each side is equal. The best way to style your ribbon is to twist one end upwards and the other side downwards to create a lop-sided effect’.
Our tip: It can be difficult to find stiff, mouldable ribbons in store. Why not hop onto the DIY trend and make your own to create the perfect ribbon. Find yourself a ribbon at a market and use metal piping to structure your accessory.
