Hairstyle

The braided chignon

As a child, we’re fairly certain that you preferred to stay away from Heidi-esque plaits your mother loved to style you in. However, over the last few years, braided hairstyles in general have made a huge comeback and are majorly on-trend. Let’s take a look at the braided chignons spotted on the Moschino runway.

The braided chignonBraided chignons weren’t the only plaits spotted on the Moschino catwalk. Models were styled with braided crowns which were then incorporated into their chignons. Although this bohemian look is generally associated with summer, there’s nothing stopping you from giving this style a go for autumn-winter 2014-2015. Make like the runway models and take your look to the next level with a statement piece of jewellery for a truly unique edge.

Who can wear this style? Women with long hair who want to open up their facial features. If you weren’t blessed with Rapunzel-worthy hair, don’t panic! You can use clip-in extensions which will give you a similar end-result. This sophisticated look is perfect for highlighting your face and keeping your hair away from your features.

Get the runway look. This look couldn’t be simpler! Start by parting your hair in the centre, then gather your lengths and the nape of the neck. Braid your lengths as you would normally, then secure into place with a small hair elastic. Roll you plait back upwards on itself and twist into a neat chignon shape, securing again with another discreet elastic. Want to get the runway version of this hairstyle? After creating your parting, leave a wide section of hair on either side next to the ears. Braid this section from one side to the other, using the French plait technique, to create your crown effect. Finish with a layer of hairspray to keep everything in place and add some shine.
