Streetstyle: Liven up your headband with retro curls

Although we all want to step out in winter without an overbearing hat, it’s not easy when there are sub-zero temperatures just outside your front door. However, you’re in luck. More and more hair accessories are popping up which are original and stylish, and will keep your head warm too. Why not show off your headgear with some retro, 40s-inspired curls?

Her hair. A long bob with perfectly formed curls. Her angelic blonde shade really brings out the shape and depth of her curls. To create waves similar to our streetstyle pick today, apply a styling mousse to damp hair, and then blast with a hairdryer so that the hair is almost dry. Next, wrap sections of the hair around some large hair rollers, stopping at the root area. Allow to dry naturally, then gently unravel your rollers to reveal beautiful curls. Spray with an even layer of hairspray to keep your 40s-inspired waves bouncy all day. To show off her hairstyle and keep warm at the same time, she has opted for a red headband to match her pillar-box red coat.

Her look. Fairly colorful for a winter look! Her headband and coat are perfectly matched in a ‘look-at-me’ shade of red. Underneath her coat, she is wearing a lace shirt with a high neck. A black belt picks up her black tights and heels. The key element of her look, however, is her telephone-shaped handbag! Her style and originality go hand-in-hand with this retro look.

Tip of the day. You can also try creating curls using a straightening iron. The thinner the plate, the better. Take small sections of the hair and pass through the straighteners, curling your hand outwards to create waves. Be careful not to leave your hair in contact with the heated plates for too long however, as this will damage and dry out the hair.
