Pink hair has invaded the red carpets and the catwalks. Hair heresy? It would seem so, however, that pink continues its breakthrough – this time in the street. Perhaps not a total style change or one for the long term, but some people are trying this change of hairstyle for an evening out or for their summer holidays.
 
The pink hair trend. First spotted at Jeremy Scott and Thakoon in New York, the trend has left its mark on the heads of models. Top singers and fashionable actresses have decided to follow this coloured trend too. Whether as a complete look or just a touch of it, pink hair boosts an appearance that’s a bit drab or complements a look that’s a bit eccentric. If, in its infancy, pink hair reminded us of a Manga heroine, it seems to have reached a rather avant-garde status today! With it being the fashion in-thing at the moment, if you want to try it, it’s this summer or never!
 
Who for? Admittedly, the pink Barbie hair may not be suitable for the workplace – unless you’re a barmaid in a cool bar or DJ in a fashionable nightclub. So opt for a temporary colour which fades with the first shampoo, or after a few weeks, through washing your hair. Also note that pink is best suited to light base colours, like blondes or light chestnuts.
 
Shades of pink. To start with, you should know that there are many shades of pink – from the palest to the brightest. Avoid the loudest – unless you are taking part in a fancy-dress party, in which case, you could even go for a whole head of pink, to really stand out! For a more low-key look, highlights or pink streaks can equally make an impact. Go for powder or pastel pinks for a more discreet look.
 
How to wear it. In the same style as tie-dye (or shaded hair), go for pink halfway on your lengths – perfect for a summer look. Another option is to get a few highlights throughout your hair. Finally, for those who don’t want to take the plunge, why not buy a pink braid and attach it to your hair like a crown. Perfect for blondes!
