Hairstyle

Step-by-step tutorial: the Belle Epoque chignon

Step 1: Try creating this look with hair that is not super-clean; hair that was washed a couple of days before is ideal and will enable a better hold. Start by backcombing your roots, which will give your chignon some much-needed volume.

Step 2: Once you have backcombed your roots, take several small sections and roll up onto the back of the head. These small rolls should not be flat and neat, as you need to keep your style looking voluminous to truly capture the Belle Epoque essence of this style.

Step 3: Secure each of these rolled up sections with some discreet bobby-pins. Make sure to pin all of your rolls into place around the same area. At the nape of the neck, gently tease loose a few strands of hair to give your style a softer finish.

Step 4: Similar to the last part of step 3, gently tease out strands of hair around your face to soften the look. Finish by spraying evenly all over with hairspray to keep your style in place as long as possible.
