Big, beautiful curls for women with straight hair

Creating big curls on straight locks isn’t mission impossible, so don’t get too disheartened! Our pros reveal how to get perfect curls with even the straightest of hair types…

It’s fairly simple to create curls with naturally straight hair. ‘A large barreled curling iron is a must-have to nail this look. Wash your hair with Ultimate Purity Shampoo from the Keratin Therapy range, dry as normal then apply a heat-defence spray to protect from the heat of your curling tongs. You can then move onto creating your curls. Curl in sections, wrapping a wide section around the barrel of your iron each time from the root down to the tip. Hold for a couple of seconds before releasing and setting into place with a spritz of hairspray’.

If your hair is naturally poker straight, your curls will not last for hours on end. ‘You’ll be able to create bouncy curls no problem, yet your issue will be with hold. What’s more, don’t forget that the bigger the curl, the faster it will lose its shape and form, whereas curls created using a smaller sized barrel should last longer. Weight plays a big role when it comes to the longevity of your curl…women with longer hair will find that their curls fall flatter faster than those with shorter styles’.

Our advice: As soon as you notice that your hair is starting to look flat and lose its curly effect, run your fingertips throughout your style to add some oomph and make the most of the waves you may be left with…after all, waves are a big trend for spring 2015!
