What techniques are there to cover up my gray hairs?
Have gray hairs started appearing in your hair recently? Whether you want to cover them up completely, or in a more subtle way, find out the best techniques here.
Temporary coloring to conceal my first gray hairs
If gray hairs only amount to a few strands easily lost in your hair, opt for streaks or highlights. These two techniques are not aimed at covering them up, but rather hiding them. The perfect color to conceal them? Ash blond! Thanks to the tones of this color verging on gray, it will perfectly blend in the gray hairs so they cannot be noticed. However, a light base (from blond to chestnut brown) is necessary so your highlights are still harmonious. As for brown hair, opt for shades one or two tones lighter than your starting color.
When gray hairs represent 20% to 50% of your hair, opt for tone-on-tone coloring. It is best for providing a translucent glossy effect whilst covering up the gray hairs. You can also achieve classic coloring by selecting the color of your choice. It will fade gradually as you shampoo it. Above all, opt for a product which does not contain ammonia. This will prove to be less damaging for your hair.
Permanent coloring to cover the gray hairs 100%
Consider doing this when most of your hair is gray and you want to make the gray color disappear. This coloring technique is the most powerful one, as it is highly concentrated in oxidants. It therefore allows the color pigments to sink in deeply. Once colored, it will be difficult for you to rediscover your natural color.
Once you have taken the plunge, you will have a beautiful even color and maximum hold! If you wish to add highlights, do it afterwards. Furthermore, visit your salon regularly to avoid an “obvious roots effect”. Finally, consider maintaining your hair with treatments from the Silver Therapy range which are fully designed for you.
