The colouring errors we no longer want to see in 2013

It’s the start of the year and it’s time to set the record straight. Some hair no-nos, especially when it comes to colour, will no longer be tolerated in 2013! Read our top 5.

Streaky highlights. They might have been the hair trend of the 90s, but streaky highlights must now vanish from all heads. These highlights are dated and unattractive… Today the trend is au naturel. Or, of course, false, but very subtle! “If you want to change your colour, opt for a Contrast, subtle streaks that will add slight variation to your hair without clashing with your natural colour.”

The fluorescent trend. Unless you’re going for the seapunk trend or hanging out with ultra-arty folk, fluorescent hair is to be avoided for everyday life! “Firstly because going pink or green hair isn’t exactly subtle, but also because this radical colour can ruin your hair.” Go instead for temporary colours if you want to test out the fluorescent hair trend.

Obvious roots. When going from brown to blonde none of us really prize the moment when our dark roots start to show. “Some of us might take a while to get our roots done for financial reasons. This is why we stress the importance of maintaining your colour, especially if you’re going for a drastic colour change. For a perfectly even colour, you should aim to visit your hairdresser every month and a half.”

Poorly chosen extensions. Different colour extensions or extensions that haven’t been applied properly will not have the desired effect. For a tailor-made result, leave it to a professional and choose extensions that are the same colour as your natural hair. “If your extensions have been applied properly and are well maintained, you’ll have that thick, dream hair you’ve always wanted!”

Colours that turn. Don’t have your hair coloured if you’re not prepared to look after it. A poorly maintained colour will fade over time, or even worse, turn a different colour. “To stop this from happening, use shampoos and masks for coloured hair. Your colour will last longer and will be better protected from external elements.”
