The ballerina bun

Always handy to have up your sleeve, this up-do is both trendy and chic at the same time. This style is perfect for ensuring not a hair falls out of place when heading to work or dancing the night away. The ballerina bun is not just for dancers: anyone can wear it and there are many versions to choose from…

How to create a ballerina bun easily. First tip: your hair will be more manageable if you haven’t washed it that day. Styles are less likely to hold in clean, shiny hair…  Start by smoothing your hair from roots to ends using a hair dryer and a brush, or simply use your straighteners. Pull your hair back and tie it up into a low ponytail. Make the ponytail as tight as you wish and apply a layer of hairspray to tame those stray hairs! Gently backcomb the bottom of the ponytail with a comb, and then twist the hair tightly round your hair band. Secure the hair with hair pins to keep the bun in place. Now apply another layer of hairspray for a long-lasting hold.

Variations on the ballerina bun.  Play around with your ballerina bun and embrace your creative side! If you’re not really feeling the strict and severe side of the ballerina bun, you could always leave some of your hair untied. Try starting with a side-parting before pulling your hair into a bun. Or why not place the bun on the top of your head for a more rock chick look.

Customise with accessories. For a special occasion or even just a few quiet drinks with the girls, add your own personal touch by accessorising your bun. For a pro-dancer look, tie a silk ribbon into your hair. For something a bit more romantic, opt for hair slides decorated with flowers, feathers or pearls. The same goes if you want a rock chick effect, but go for black accessories.
