The 1920s: haircuts and hairstyles that left their mark on the decade
Besides the emancipation of women, the 20’s also marked a hair milestone for ladies who traded in their locks for short androgynous haircuts and dared to try out wild hairstyles. We take a closer look at 3 major hairstyles from the decade.
The bob: the cult cut
To adapt to their new active lifestyles, women went for a radical change with the bob. It was often a blunt short ear-length bob with layers at the nape. The clear-cut lines of this bob haircut gave it a graphic style, often reinforced by a blunt fringe which added structure. A perfect masculine-feminine look to affirm that women were equal to men, worn either straight or in waves.
