It’s often difficult to decide between wearing a centre
and side parting. Is one better than the other? Is the centre parting better suited to certain styles? The pros reveal all.
There are several things to consider when deciding on your parting. ‘Take a look at how your hair naturally falls into place. It’s extremely difficult to make your hair lie in the opposite direction to its natural parting. If you’re trying to style a braid which lies to the side, it’s better to follow the natural pattern of your hair rather than following trends’.
Does your hair part to one side rather than in the centre? ‘It’s totally up to whether you keep your parting messy or neat. Don’t worry about which one you choose, as it should stay in place thanks to the natural direction of your parting’.
How you style your parting should also be determined by how much volume you want to achieve
. ‘A centre parting has a tendency to make hair appear flatter, whilst the side parting can create the illusion of having more hair’.
Don’t worry too much about your face shape. ‘It’s very subjective. Play around with your hair in front of the mirror to decide which version suits you best. There’s no right or wrong when it comes to your face shape’. Our advice:
Your hair should always follow the natural direction that your parting grows. You can never change this, so make the most of what you’ve got and learn to style around it! © Pixelformula / Andrea Incontri prêt-à-porter runway, Autumn-Winter 2014-2015 © Jean Louis David
