How to avoid the straw effect in summer

How to avoid the straw effect in summer

The straw effect only occurs in dry hair. To avoid this problem, make sure you look after your hair and get it trimmed regularly.

Cut your hair before and after your holiday. “Visit your hairdresser before you go on holiday to get rid of your dry and damaged ends. Your ends are a lot more fragile in summer. So you should also visit your hairdresser after your holidays. If you want to avoid the straw effect, do not miss these appointments, especially if you haven’t really been looking after your hair lately.”

The straw effect is a phenomenon that only occurs in dry hair. “The straw effect generally happens in coloured or bleached hair, which tends to be a lot more fragile. The combination of sun, sea and sand leaves it even more fragile and feeling like straw. If you don’t look after it either, then expect disaster!”

If, despite all your efforts you’re still experiencing the straw effect, have your hair trimmed and look after it. “At least trim the ends and look after the rest of your hair the way your hair type needs to be treated. Keratin treatments help to avoid the straw effect and these are perfect when it comes to pampering dry and fragile mid-lengths and ends.”

Our tip: Highlighted hair often suffers from the straw effect more severely. The only way to prevent this effect is to have your highlights done gradually in order to avoid excessive damage.
