Create a rock-chic, feminine look with a ribbon
Women looking for a way to update their hair accessories should look no further. After seeing the hairband make a comeback, it’s now the ribbon’s turn to become popular. Worn at the front of the head, it can create a rock-chic, feminine vibe.
The trend. Inspired by the rockabilly trend, this style can be worn with any day-to-day look. However, those who wear the ribbon with backcombed, voluminous hair will work this trend best. The icon behind this style is none other than Amy Winehouse, minus the oversized beehive.
A closer look at the ribbon. Your choice of ribbon is extremely important. In fact, not only do you need to choose a ribbon in a shade that will suit your hair, you also need a ribbon that is on-trend this season. Alexis Mabille sent his runway models down the catwalk with navy blue ribbons in their hair. As well as choosing the correct color, watch out for the length, as you should be able to wrap it around your head and have room left to tie a bow in the middle. After tying your accessory, you won’t need to alter your style during the day.
Create a catwalk-worthy style. Ideally, you should create this look on hair that was washed the day before to add texture to your style. Freshen up your hair with dry shampoo to add some body and lasting hold, then backcomb the crown area to add some volume around the roots. Create a side parting and leave a section of hair loose on either side near the front, pulling the rest of your lengths up into a top-knot. Tease out a few strands of hair around the nape of the neck to give your style a messy, dishevelled look. Take your ribbon and wrap it around your head, bringing the two ends up towards the top and then tie into a bow. The bow itself should not be too big and voluminous, and the two ends should be visible. Spray all over with hairspray to keep in place.
