How to use dry shampoo

It may already be the latest addition to your make-up bag or hand bag, but can dry shampoo replace your normal shampoo? Who is it aimed at? And how should you apply it? Our expert answers all of your questions.

“Dry shampoo comes in aerosol or powder form and acts in a similar way to blotting. This means that once the product is applied to your hair, you simply leave it to act on its own. A few minutes later, any access sebum has been absorbed without you having had to get your hair wet!” Dry shampoo is proven effective, as long as you go no longer than a week without washing your hair…

Dry shampoo should not, however, be used as a replacement for your normal shampoo. “It should only be used occasionally, in an emergency! Even if it is great for people with hair that tends to get greasy quickly and who don’t want to wash their hair every day.” If you have greasy hair or greasy roots, use your dry shampoo only on the problem areas and alternate with your normal shampoo.

Note that dry shampoo is a product which doesn’t need to be rinsed out. “Once applied, leave it to act and remove the surplus product with a brush or towel, otherwise it can leave your hair looking dusty! So get rid of the excess to avoid ruining your style.” The way you apply this product also determines the result. If using an aerosol dry shampoo, be careful not to spray too close to your hair. And no need to spread it through your hair with your fingers or a comb; dry shampoo knows what to do!

Our tip: Whether or not you have greasy hair, if you have a fringe, you will know that this tends to get greasy more quickly than the rest of your hair. Cue: dry shampoo to the rescue! If you have a big night out coming up or you simply can’t cope with the far from attractive greasy look, feel free to use dry shampoo on your fringe only. Immaculate hair all over guaranteed!
