Brazilian hair straightening treatments: 3 need-to-know facts

Do you dream of soft, silky hair that is both voluminous and straight 24/7? A Brazilian straightening treatment might be the answer! Here are the top 3 need-to-know facts before committing to this luxury hair treatment.

What does Brazilian straightening involve? Your stylist will have to open the hair shaft to allow the keratin molecules to deeply penetrate the hair. They will then close the hair shaft with heated plates. This treatment is reversible and is designed to eliminate any existing curl or frizz. The hair’s fibres will be in this relaxed stage for around 3-6 months.

Will Brazilian straightening damage my hair? Brazilian straightening is all about keratin. Keratin actually strengthens our hair whilst providing it with added proteins. This treatment can be performed on all different hair types, in salon or at home, with no risk of damage. However, you should always make an appointment to see your qualified stylist for optimum results.

How should I look after my hair after treatment? For the next 72 hours, washing your hair and using hair accessories is strictly forbidden. This cooling-off period shouldn’t prevent you from styling your hair how you normally do, however. One thing to bear in mind if you decide to go for a Brazilian treatment is that shampoos with a sodium sulphate formula should be avoided at all costs as this will unseal the keratin and your treatment will not last as long.
