Bob update: the flicked-out blow-dry

Still going strong despite the arrival of Spring-Summer, the bob is getting an original update that sets it apart from last year’s version. Whereas in summer 2013, the sleek bob was all everyone was talking about, 2014’s version has been completely revamped.

The trend. Does this look remind you of your mother-in-law? Us too. Originally, the reverse blow-dry was a popular look amongst more mature women with typical bourgeoisie style. But that was back then. Now, the trend has come full circle and is set to be a big hit with younger generations. Anyone with short hair can create this look. Instead of turning your round brush inwards when blow drying your style, twist outwards to create an on-trend flick.

Who can work this style? Anyone who is feeling fed up with their bob and wants to give their style a new lease of life. However, women who are looking to add extra personality and individuality to their look can also give this technique a go. This look is a great way to turn heads. Don’t bother straightening your lengths, as this can often appear dated and old-fashioned. This summer, embrace any natural frizz or curl you may already have.

How to create the look. Once you have washed your hair, create a centre parting. Allow hair to dry naturally or use a hair dryer, but stay away from using a brush for now. The finished result should look untamed and frizzy…not picture perfect. When your hair is almost dry but still slightly damp, work the ends with a round brush and turn outwards to create a flick. The contrast between frizzy lengths and tamed ends is simply stunning. What are you waiting for?
