Hairstyle

What products do I need to create the wet look?

In Autumn-winter 2013-2014, it’s all eyes on the wet look. A huge hit back in summer, the just-back-from-the-beach look is sticking around despite winter coming. Whether you prefer dual-effect hairstyles or wet all over, follow our professional advice to make sure you choose the right products.

The product you need depends on the wet look you’re after. “If you’re a guy wanting to push your hair back whilst creating a glossy effect, you’re going to need two products: one to hold, one to shine. In other words, a gel and a serum. Gel sets the hairstyle in place and serum gives the impression the hair is wet.”

For a more natural result, one styling product will do. “Women tend to prefer a shiny effect rather than hold. Wax or serum are perfect when you’re trying to go for that just-back-from-the-beach effect. These products won’t hold your hair in place, but they will give you a shiny effect that lasts all day long. Practise applying these products so that your hair doesn’t look greasy. It would be a shame to ruin the style! You need to find the right balance. In this situation, women with short hair are lucky as they don’t need to use much product to achieve the wet look. And the less product you use, the less likely your hair is to look greasy.”

If you have long hair, use styling products to suit your hair type. “Perfect Liss or Perfect Curls can be used to create the wet look. Apply to wet hair to prolong the wet effect. Such products don’t offer long-lasting shine, but the effect will last at least a few hours.”

Our tip: don’t be afraid to mix and match two products. Gel and serum can be combined to create both hold and shine. Mixing the products together reduces the fixing effect and strengthens the shine. And there you have it, a perfectly shiny effect that lasts!
