Having long been judged as old news, the centre-parting is now making a comeback. This uber seventies-style parting involves separating the hair into two equal sections for a relaxed yet structured look.


Who suits this hair style? Many of you have already adopted the centre-parting as your new style: the great thing about it being that it suits all hair types. Whether your hair is straight or curly, short or long, the centre-parting is perfectly adaptable and works particularly well if you have a round face, giving definition to your features. Watch out though; avoid this style if you have very fine hair. It will leave your hair looking dull and lifeless.


The centre-parting on loose hair. For a bohemian look, try out the centre-parting on curly or wavy hair. Use large curling tongs for ultra-sexy waves. For a more seventies look, straighten your locks for a ‘hippie chic’ hair style. You could even wear a headband to really bring out your hippie side.


The centre-parting with up-dos. When worn with up-dos, the centre-parting will give you a more formal edge. Perfect for meetings, interviews and playing the conscientious student without sacrificing fashion and sophistication. Comb your hair into a centre-parting and pull it back into a low ponytail. Remember to smooth and straighten your hair beforehand. Also, why not give it a go with a mid-high chignon. Follow the same rules as for the ponytail: sleek and straight first.


How to get the perfect centre-parting. For an immaculate parting, use a fine-toothed comb. Comb your hair back and use the comb to draw the parting. Start at the front and work backwards. Use your nose as a reference point to make sure your parting is perfectly central!
