During summer, we often like to braid our hair through the daytime so that we can keep it away from our faces on hot days. Come night time, once you have unravelled your braid
, you’d love to be able to make your new-found waves last as long as possible. So how can you achieve a longer-lasting version of this look? The pros reveal all.
Love the luscious waves
your braid creates? ‘Before styling your braid, apply a spray or mousse to your locks. These products will help your curls to retain their shape once let loose later. Just make sure you don’t try braiding if your hair is naturally thick, or if your locks are damp’.
Contrary to popular belief, never allow your braid to dry whilst you sleep. ‘Apart from soaking your pillow, this technique does you no favors. To truly dry out your braid, you need heat, so get out in the sun. Create this look in the morning, then head to the beach to naturally dry your locks into perfect waves for the evening ahead’.
Ideally, you should braid hair when it is almost completely dry. ‘After washing hair, quickly blast with the hairdryer and apply a mousse before braiding. If your braid is still damp, your hairstyle will take too long to completely dry out’. Our advice: Twists
are also a great way to get a wavy effect, remember that if you braid or twist with larger sections, you will get a wavy finish, whereas smaller sections make the hair curl tighter. © Pixelformula / Temperley London prêt-à-porter runway, Autumn-Winter 2014-2015 © Jean Louis David
