The summer season is highly popular for wearing braids and plaits. Although the classic braid is still a popular choice, there are a few other options to consider this season. A messy fishtail braid or braided crown are just a couple of the most popular braids at the moment. Let’s take a closer look and compare 2 new braid styles.
 
Manga braids. Most commonly seen on young teens inspired by Japanese manga-culture, the new manga-style braids are set to be big news. Don’t believe us? Take a look at the recent Marc By Marc Jacobs runway where models all wore manga braids, regardless of their hair length. The key part to this look? Your parting must lie in the centre and your braids must look rigid and structured on either side of the head. A strong hold styling product is essential in order to mould each braid neatly into place.
 
Double French braids. This stylish take on the classic braid is more suited to those inspired by the boho-chic trend. This style has a romantic feel and is extremely popular for bridal hairstyles. Creating the look is simple. Braid two French plaits from the roots to the lengths, on either side of your parting. Ideally, some strands should come loose to truly capture the bohemian spirit of this style. It’s up to you to decide whether you braid the whole of your lengths, or allow the ends to flow loosely and blend into the rest of your hair.
 
Our verdict. Manga braids and double French braids each create a distinctly different look. For days when you want to wear bright colors and add a touch of individuality, go for manga braids. For days when you’re wearing a long floaty maxi-dress, double French braids are a no-brainer. The double French braid is less rigid and can be worn for more everyday looks, however the right attitude and confidence can allow some women to more than pull off manga braids for daytime occasions.
