Guys: how to style your hair with a hat

Men aren’t immune to hairstyle disasters. Even with short hair, mishaps can occur, especially when trying to accessorise with a hat. Flat, greasy locks can be caused by wearing headgear, so just how should you style your hair when wearing one of this season’s hats? Let’s find out.

Wearing a hat. The arrival of summer brings with it warm temperatures and the burning hot sun. This is why it is so important to protect your hair by wearing a summer hat. Anything from the classic panama to the modern cap are the perfect choices when it comes to protecting your face and hair in the shade. However, what should you be doing with your hair in these situations?

Styling hair with a hat. There is a big difference when it comes to styling short vs long hair. Guys with long hair should carry dry shampoo with them to prevent the dreaded ‘hat-hair’ effect. Guys with shorter hair, however, can pretty much do what they want, providing their style doesn’t need any specific styling requirements. If you’re used to using gel or wax every day, ditch these products come summer unless you want your hair to become moulded into a bizarre shape after wearing a hat.

How to style longer hair lengths. Ideally, long hair should be tied up beneath your hat, meaning your accessory should sit loosely on your head, allowing your scalp to breathe. Create a low-lying ponytail at the base of the neck so that your hat can perch nicely on top. Next, make like your female friends and opt for a dry shampoo which will instantly freshen up second-day hair. Your roots will instantly appear refreshed and revived.
