Curly hair: 4 tips for easy detangling
No matter how careful you are, your curly hair always ends up getting tangled. That’s the way it is. Its structure encourages it to wrap around itself in every direction. But don’t give up! Here are four game-changing tips.
1 – Specialised brushing
To detangle curly hair, you should start by dampening your locks and thoroughly brush them just prior to washing. Start from the tips and work your way up the whole length. By brushing in the opposite direction, you risk making any existing knots worse, making it harder to get rid of them.
Expert advice: For best results, choose a suitable brush: a wide air-cushioned brush which is less damaging than other types.
2 – Perfectly targeted treatments
The spirals formed by your hair make it more difficult for sebum to circulate. Not as well moisturised, curly and frizzy hair tends to be drier. Dry hair means knots are more likely to appear. To get around this annoyance, opt for a nourishing shampoo followed by conditioner for maximum flexibility.
Expert advice: Opt for a nourishing and moisturising conditioner for perfect protection.
3 – Comb after washing
Once your hair is clean and squeezed out, use a wide-toothed comb. This accessory allows you to remove any last few knots effectively so you can easily style your hair.
Expert advice: During this step, it is possible to apply a leave-in product if detangling is still tricky, as well as a specifically formulated treatment for enhancing your curls.
4 – In case of emergency
If you don’t have time to wash your hair, don’t panic. Lightly dampen your hair and use a leave-in treatment specifically formulated for curly or frizzy hair. Then, brush with a wide brush first through the ends and then down the lengths. This tip is slightly less effective at detangling your curls but it is still an excellent compromise when you’re in a rush.
Expert advice: Repeat the process with a fine-tooth comb for more effective detangling.
