3 steps to combat greasy hair
Sick of your hair looking greasy all the time? Discover our top 3 tips to prevent your hair from looking slick and instead appear lightweight and healthy.
1. Select targeted products. Oil-free products with softening formulas were made for your hair type. Choosing the right products will stop your hair from becoming weighed down with product. A purifying shampoo is a must-have in your haircare routine to reduce the amount of sebum produced by the scalp.
2. Don’t shampoo too often. The more you wash your hair, the more the scalp is overstimulated, which is the cause behind greasy locks. Try to shampoo your hair 2-3 times per week, no more. Massage the scalp gently to avoid over-stimulation, then rinse with tepid water. Instead of over-shampooing, why not use dry shampoo which has a similar effect and eliminates grease. Dry shampoo will instantly freshen up your style, from morning to night. As well as being easy to carry around in your handbag, you can spritz a small amount onto your roots whenever you feel like your hair needs perking up.
3. Leave it alone! Once you’ve finished styling, leave your hair well lone! Constantly touching your hair will lead to the sebaceous glands producing even more sebum to protect the scalp, meaning hair gets greasy quicker. Carefully comb wet hair with a wide tooth comb then leave to air dry to reduce the amount of heat damage caused by styling appliances. Finally, try to avoid any friction between your hair and accessories such as hats, scarves and caps to avoid greasy roots.
