My hairdryer is broken: how do I dry my hair?
It’s first thing in the morning, you’ve got out of the shower with wet hair and now you want to dry it. But disaster strikes and your hairdryer refuses to turn on. Your hair’s best friend has laid itself down to rest and you need to think quickly. Here are our tips!
It’s rather difficult to rush out of the house with dry hair without the helping hand of your hairdryer. What you can do though is make it less damp. “It’s important to wring it out. When you’ve finished rinsing your hair, twist it to get rid of any excess water and comb through. Next, take a dry towel – which doesn’t necessarily have to be hot – and wrap it around your hand. Rub your hair at your roots, where your hair is wettest and where the water is more difficult to get rid of.” Now take another dry towel, but this time hold your head upside down and roll the towel around your mid-lengths and ends.
These days people generally think that microfiber towels work better than bath towels. “This type of towel is great for the swimming pool. It has a great thickness-absorption ratio and doesn’t take up much room in your bag. But it is not as good for your hair.” You can’t beat a good old bath towel!
Another option is leaving your hair to dry naturally. Many people think that this can harm your hair and scalp. “Quite the opposite in fact. It’s the better choice if you’re after a natural result. But in autumn and winter it’s perhaps not a great idea to go out with wet or even towel-dried hair!”
If you want to opt for this solution, you might want to use styling products, such as mousse, to give your hair some shape. “Apply the mousse to wet hair, and then go out like that. Once your hair is dry it will start to get more solid and you’ll be able to style it. Hold your head upside down and use your fingers to untangle any clumps.”
Our tip: No hairdryer, but you may have other styling tools up your sleeve! If you’re thinking straighteners or curling tongs, forget it straight away. These tools should only be used on dry hair. The airstyler is a great option, however, as it blows your hair like a hairdryer.
