Looking after your extensions in summer

It’s important to look after your hair during the summer, and even more important to look after your extensions. Going from short to long is all well and good, as long as you give your extensions the care they need in the sun.

Looking after your extensions in summer is not a word of advice, it’s an obligation. “Whether you wear extensions for extra length or added volume, make sure you tie them up! Hair used as extensions is usually stripped of its colour then re-coloured, so it is very fragile. So if you expose it to the sun and let it trail in the sand, you’re asking for trouble. Make sure you pay extra special attention when you’re at the beach or pool.

There’s no point removing your extensions during summer. “We don’t advise against wearing extensions in summer. If you look after them, there’s no reason for them to get damaged. Treat them, care for them and protect them to avoid any issues. As well as tying them up, untangle them with treatments for the mid-lengths and other specific areas. Also make sure you apply a mask regularly.

Holidays by the sea with exposure to sun, salt and sand can leave your hair fragile. “Don’t make things worse by using your straighteners on your extensions. Also avoid overheating them with your hairdryer. And remember, if you tie them up you won’t have to wash them every day!”

Our tip: Use a brush instead of a comb to untangle your hair. Brushes with a flexible air cushion are good as they don’t pull on your hair too much.
