How to work the Masculine-Feminine style

For a trendy look this season, it’s all about bending the rules. Grunge vs sweet and innocent, Rock vs Bohemian… There is something for everyone. The most sought after trend? Masculine-Feminine. For the perfect style, have a dig around in your boyfriend or partner’s wardrobe. A tie here, a blazer there and you’re ready to rock the masculine-inspired look.

The Masculine-Feminine look. For the perfect Masculine-Feminine style, there are a few rules to bear in mind. Feel free to borrow items from your man’s wardrobe, but don’t pick anything too big. If there is a large size difference between the two of you, you’ll have to buy your own items. We’d encourage you to wear suit trousers, a tie or even derbies, as long as they look flattering on you! Such items must be worn fitted so you don’t look like a tomboy who’s just thrown any old thing on. The Masculine-Feminine trend encourages you to embrace an androgynous look, neutral and minimalist. Steer clear of anything too colourful. For the perfect result, team blacks with whites or greys. To liven things up a bit, feel free to incorporate stripes.

Masculine-Feminine make-up. This depends on you. Some people can offset the masculine vibe by showing off their femininity with a bright red lipstick and bold eyes. Others, however, prefer to go all out with the androgynous look: barely-there make-up and an easy-to-manage hairstyle (like the models on the Vanessa Bruno catwalk, shown above). Whichever make-up you go for, opt for one of this season’s trendy hairstyles: long and wavy or a bob!
