When you wake up, do your curls look limp and lifeless? In order for them to keep their shape all night long, you should take drastic steps the night before.
The night before, start by detangling your hair with a wide-tooth comb before washing with treatments specifically formulated for curly hair. This is to keep your curls full of bounce. As curly hair is naturally dry, opt for formulations rich in keratin to ensure that your locks are deeply hydrated. After you have washed your hair, apply a hydrating mask.
Avoid going to bed with wet hair so as not to flatten your curls. Instead opt for air drying, or select the cold setting on your hair dryer which is better suited to the fragile nature of your hair type.
Top tip. If you don't have time to wash your hair, detangle your locks with your fingers before applying a leave-in treatment which will deeply nourish the hair fibre and help to better define your curls.
Then, gather your hair into a high ponytail, without overly tightening it. This will keep your curls looking bouncy, and will prevent the hairband from leaving any kinks. By doing this, your hair will get less tangled and your curls' volume will be preserved. Avoid chignon buns or plaits, which could flatten and ruin your curls. To make your hair less dry and less likely to break, wrap it in a net or silk scarf to protect it. Alternatively, opt for a satin pillowcase. Satin absorbs sebum less than cotton does.
When you wake up, simply spread a small amount of styling product through your hair to tame any unruly strands and to structure your curls.
