Runway to reality: the gelled swirl
This season’s runway hair was all about simplicity and minimalism. However, some designers were clearly inspired by more elaborate hairstyles, such as gelling hair down onto the side of each temple. Will this trend make the jump from runway to reality? Let’s find out.
The gelled swirl spotted on the runway. The recent Nasir Mazhar runway hairstyles were anything but loose and simple. He is well known for his statement headgear, attention to detail and experimental trends. It therefore came as no surprise that he opted for complicated, and sometimes daring, hairstyles at his most recent show. Models were styled with the front sections of their hair gelled down to their forehead, then twisted into swirl shapes for a retro feel. Thanks to the gel used in these looks, hair appeared glossy and stayed in place beautifully. This look is certainly wind-proof!
How to wear day-to-day. If you want to run the risk of looking like you have grown a beard then be out guest! Otherwise, forget about trying to create this look which is overly complicated and not very feminine at all. The amount of gel used can weigh down your locks, making them look greasy. Instead, opt for a sleek ponytail with straightened lengths for a more up-to-date look.
Get the look. If you still want to give this trend a go, why not experiment this Halloween? Nobody can criticise your new look thanks to the fancy dress theme. Sweep all of your hair backwards, leaving a few sections loose at the front to create your gelled swirls. Next, secure into a topknot chignon. Run a fair amount of gel throughout your front strands, then shape into place onto your face using your fingers.
