For summer 2013, the straw hat has given itself a makeover and features a flexible brim for a laid-back, boho feel. Whether you wear it for sun protection or as a hair accessory on a night out, the straw hat is becoming a must-have wardrobe item!
 
Where the straw hat came from. Weaved with straw or reed, the straw hat was initially designed to protect the heads of farmers who spent a lot of time in the sun. The straw is weaved differently depending on the way the wearer wants it to look. In the 19th century, wealthy women started wearing the straw hat on their strolls through gardens or the countryside. Loved for its lightness, the hat was worn differently to suit the trends of the time. Just like today.
 
How to wear it. Whatever the occasion, the straw hat is perfect for adding a hip and trendy touch to your outfit. There’s no point spending hours styling your hair when you’re wearing this accessory though, simply let the hat work its magic!
If you decide to wear the straw hat at the beach, leave your hair down. On a night out, wear it roughed-up.  Use a styling mousse to thicken and add texture to your hair.
Dry your hair with your head upside down using a round brush to add volume. Once your hair is dry, heat a small amount of sculpting paste between your hands in order to bring out your lengths and boost the roughed-up effect.
