Hair how-to: Jason Wu’s bird’s nest chignon

The bird’s nest chignon spotted on the Jason Wu runway show is a sophisticated alternative to the classic version of this updo. The only problem? This style can be difficult to create, but luckily our pros are here to show you how-to.

You’ll need long locks to re-create the bird’s nest chignon. “In fact, it’s much more difficult to get this runway look if your hair is on the short side. Ideally, your hair needs to be at least shoulder length and fairly thick”.

Keep in mind that this hairstyle isn’t a quick and simple look to create. “The bird’s nest effect is tricky to perfect on your own, as it’s almost impossible to fully see what you’re doing at the back without somebody giving you a helping hand”.

Ready to take up the challenge? “Section off the rear part of your hair and backcomb at the roots. Next, twist the lengths of the same section back on themselves to form the bird’s nest and pin into place. Once this part is secure, you can start taking sections from the front and pinning them around the nest. Of course, to keep this area firmly in place all day long, spray evenly with hairspray”.

Our advice: This elegant and sophisticated updo is perfect for a chic evening out with friends. This look isn’t just for special occasions, however. Try wearing yours to the office…just make sure you leave enough time to get ready in the morning!
