Hair contouring: taking the coloring world by storm

Contouring has been a major trend in the beauty industry over the last couple of seasons. Essentially, this technique involves highlighting and adding shadow to your face to add dimension and show off your best features. But, did you know you can also contour your hair? Take a closer peek.

The trend. This new coloring technique takes into consideration your face shape, complexion and eye color in order to show off all of your best features thanks to cleverly-placed highlights. Hair is colored using several different tones to create the perfect shade. Several techniques can be used, including dip-dye, contrast highlights and Sunlight.

Who can contour their hair? Anybody who wants to perfect their hairstyle. Hair contouring is the ideal solution to getting your hair color 100% the way you want it, tailored to your individual hair type to bring out your best bits.

Get the runway look. Always opt for a salon or get a professional to do your color. If your face is round, opt for lighter tones around the upper section of your style and darker nearer the ends and mid-lengths. If, on the other hand, you have a long face, opt for a darker color at the roots that lightens towards the ends. Those with square-shaped faces should soften the edges of the face with darker tones and keep the rest of your style fairly light. Finally, for women with heart-shaped faces, ask your stylist to add a darker color around the forehead and highlights at the ends to balance everything out. Always book an appointment to see a stylist before committing to a color change…they will be able to give you professional haircare advice to ensure a perfect end-result.
