Changing your hair colour: making the right choice

As the season changes, our image tends to change with it. When the cold weather sets in, we often fancy a new haircut or colour. While most women are happy to follow the trends of the moment, some people have no idea how to choose their new colour. Here’s a look at some of the criteria to think about.

When changing your hair colour, the most important thing is not to go from one extreme to the other. “Going from brown to blond or blond to brown can be a very complicated task. It’s a lot easier to go a few tones darker than your current colour, but no more. Women with blond hair might go for a brown or dark brown. Always remember that going to the extreme is just as delicate as going back to your natural colour afterwards.”

When you have no idea what colour you want, it’s often difficult to make a decision. “Often your hairdresser will picture you with a colour that’s completely different from what you had in mind. Feel free to take pictures to the salon with you for inspiration and to show your hairdresser what kind of colours you like.”

When it comes to choosing the right hair colour for your skin tone, there are no set rules. “Women are often surprised by which skin tones go with which hair colours. Some women with really fair skin daren’t dye their hair black, yet this combination can work really well on some people. The same goes for people with darker skin who fancy going a bit lighter: this often looks great!”

Our tip: at Jean Louis David this winter, it’s all about Lift Color. To be bang on-trend, keep different tones in your hair with a dark base colour to really bring out your haircut.
