Hair accessories: alternatives to hair elastics

When you’re looking for a super quick hairstyle, often the first thing you pick up is a hair elastic when you need to tie up your hair. Sometimes, the color of your hair tie can be the only thing that makes your hairstyle original. However, there are many other options to choose from when it comes to hair accessories. Be brave and try something new!

Two hair elastics: Got nothing but a few hair ties lying around your bathroom? Don’t panic! You can still use simple hair elastics, just use more to create an interesting take on the style. This look is perfect with the standard ponytail. Secure your first hair tie where you want your ponytail to start, then another a few inches below your first. Be sure to leave space between the two.

The leather headband. The Helmut Land spring-summer 2014 catwalk saw models walk down the runway with large, leather headbands. Rather than keeping the hairstyles simple, the designer decided to match hair accessories to his collection’s theme. All the models with long hair wore their hair tied up with a leather headband. Placed in the middle of the head, this accessory simply acts as eye candy rather than a functional style piece, but is beautiful nonetheless.

Nothing. Think we’re kidding? How on earth can we tie our hair up with no hair accessories whatsoever, we hear you say? You can…with the help of some hairspray. A whole can of hairspray! The technique behind this style is to tie your hair into a low-slung ponytail, then spray thoroughly with hair spray to create a wet-look effect.  When you think your hair is well coated with hairspray, take out the elastic and voila! Your ponytail should stay in place all on its own. This look acts as a great conversation starter too!
