Going from brown to blonde
Going from brown to blond can be extremely complicated without the right preparation. This colouring treatment can leave hair very fragile. For a tailor-made result, visit your hairdresser, who will make sure your hair is well looked after during the treatment.
When you’re going from brown to blond, your hairdresser must first of all look carefully at your base colour and your hair’s condition. “The blond we choose will depend on the original brown. When switching from brown to blonde, it’s best to start with highlights. This will lighten the whole head and produce a regular, natural blond. Your hairdresser’s technique will also depend on your hair’s condition. If your hair is healthy, no problem. But if you have fragile hair, you’ll need to be careful how light you go.”
Going from brown to blond requires a number of steps. “The easier hair lightens, the less steps it will take to reach blond. The more steps required, the more fragile hair will become. This is why people with dry hair should avoid this type of colouring treatment, otherwise you’ll end up with straw-like hair! You should also remember that blond is only suitable for women with a medium base. With dark hair, attempting to go blond will only end in tears both in terms of the end colour and the health of your hair.
Finally, to keep your colour looking fabulous, make sure you look after it regularly. “Your hairdresser should stress the importance of looking after your hair. For a flawless colour, you need to visit your hairdresser every 6 weeks, which can be fairly pricey. Look after your hair at home with shampoos, masks and blue shampoo.
