A closer look at tousled hair

The neo-grunge trend has seen the rise of less disciplined, more roughed-up hair for a deliberately wild style. Continuing along those lines, here’s tousled hair, but this time with a much more romantic result. Let’s take a closer look at this new (deceptively) sweet and innocent trend!

Tousled hair for a neo-romantic style. Tousled lengths spotted on the Carven catwalk gave supermodels an angelic look reminiscent of those spellbinding mermaids you find in fairy tales. Slick at the top and tousled throughout the lengths, this style makes for a neo-romantic, 2012 version of those mermaids. A trend which aims to replace the bohemian waves of last season.

Create tousled hair. It couldn’t be easier. To get tousled hair, simply repeat what you used to do as a teenage girl to make your hair wavy… Plait it! While your hair is still wet, separate your hair into two sections and plait it on both sides starting just above the ears. Secure at the ends and wait until your hair is completely dry. Speed things up a bit using a hairdryer if you wish. Untie your hair and carefully undo the plaits. Style using your fingers and use a fixing spray to keep the waves in place.

Wet-look roots. To pull off the mermaid look like the Carven catwalk models, you’re going to need wet-look roots. Create a centre-parting then use a styling gel to create your wet-look. Warm the product in the palms of your hands and apply sparingly and evenly across the roots. Your hair is instantly slick and styled!
