For his Spring-Summer 2013 collection, Jean Paul Gaultier paid tribute to the icons of the 80s. Icons who have influenced generations with their looks, hairstyles and make-up. Here’s a closer look at the cult hairstyles of the 80s.
 
Madonna. The pop singer kicked off her career in the 80s with provocative looks and a very characteristic beauty look. At the time, the star had permed, blond hair. And she wasn’t afraid to get her hands on accessories to boost her hairstyles. Many of you will remember the scarf she wore tied around her head.
 
David Bowie. Or more to the point, his 70s Ziggy Stardust persona. But it wasn’t until the 80s that his signature mullet haircut started to attract a following. A mullet is hair styled into a crew cut on the top of the head and left long at the back. David Bowie took eccentricity to the next level by dyeing it red!
 
Michael Jackson. You’ll remember his red “Thriller” vest and the glove he could barely live without. But do you remember his black Borsalino hat and the curl that delicately covered one of his eyes?
 
Annie Lennox. Some might say this singer is the pioneer of the tomboy style! Her legendary short haircut, sometimes even styled into a crew cut, caused a lot of hype. Today, she has almost white blond hair, but at the time she went for red for a more eccentric look.
 
Boy George. This androgynous artist has created much controversy. We remember him today for his extravagant make-up and dreadlocks. Another of the singer’s signature hairstyles was permed hair, which he wore loose with his black hat, placed simply on his head.
