Which shades of brown are hot for spring-summer 2014?

We often tend to assume that brown hair shades are more suited to winter than summer. However, this simply isn’t true! Brunette shades can adapted to each season, creating new, interesting looks. The pros explain how to wear your brown hair this summer.

Brown is rarely considered a summery hair colour. ‘Most women prefer to wear light and bright hair colours during summer, as the sun reflects the light better. This is linked to the fact that hair lightens naturally in the sun. Summery brown shades can look divine when paired with light highlights that bring warmth to the wearer’s face’.

As soon as the temperatures start getting warmer in springtime, women often want to go one or two shades lighter than their usual brown shade. ‘They go to their salon to adapt their shade to the season. During summer, brown hair looks best when worn in light to medium brown shades rather than dark, heavy colours. At your salon appointment, your stylist should be able to lift your hair colour and keep the overall effect looking natural.’

One of the golden rules of dyeing dark hair lighter is to not lighten your base shade too much. ‘One or two shades lighter is enough to break up your colour and give it a lighter appearance. The lighter sections will give your hair depth and body and looks much more appealing than a heavy block colour that can weigh you down over summer’.

Our tip: At your nearest Jean Louis David salon, ask your stylist to lighten your locks using the 2-in-1 or the Sunlight technique. Get ready to wow this summer!
